Begining 2013 with 2012

A piano and a graceful old lady playing a piano right next to the edge of the water at the tank farm along the Auckland water front. I did not complete the sketch due to the rain that disrupted this session and will hopefully return their again to sketch the structures and do a full drawing out of it!

Then there was this Fishermen at the Queens Wharf! He didn't catch anything while I was sketching him but his diligence to that end gave me time enough to capture him reeling his line in! I enjoyed this very much!

Then there was this very mobile Asian fisherman. He changed his hat regularly, switching from his straw hat to a cap and vice-versa depending on the wind which was reasonably strong at the time. His mobile nature however helped me to figure out for myself how best I could sketch such a mobile subject. I did gesture drawings of the two different poses I wanted to sketch him in and worked simultaneously on each depending on whether he was sitting or standing! This proved to be successful and am looking forward to sketching like this some more in 2013.

The end of the year 2012 also introduced me to the Big Draw Meet Up here in Auckland. My first session with them was at St Patrick's Square. This session for me was an eye opener! Since arriving in Auckland, I had been trying to teach myself to draw well. In so doing, I came across 'Urban Sketching' and the works of Murry Dewhurst and +Lynne Chapman . The Big Draw Meet Up gave me a community I could attach myself too and I will forever be grateful to all the grate people there for this. ( You can check the group out on face book at https://www.facebook.com/groups/245871822104761/). The St Patrick's Square Big Draw really is for me, the beginning of my latest love; Urban sketching and drawing. Here are the sketches from this session.

And so on the first day of 2013 and the 364 days ahead I intend to showcase thru this blog Auckland as I see it through my sketches. Hope you will stick round till the end of this journey! Cheers +Leonard Tebegetu , this is a home for your sketches on the web!
